Kopupaka Playground
Kopupaka Playground, Westgate Auckland
Kopupaka Playground is a new destination playground located in Westgate, Auckland. Kopupaka was already an award winning reserve and now it has become an even better community resource with the additional of a fantastic new (and now also award winning) destination playground.
Principal Landscape Architect Nina Rattray from Auckland Council came up with a great initial concept and Playground People then worked with her team to bring the design to life. From start to finish this have been a very collaborative process with all parties all aiming to deliver the same great outcome.
The Kopupaka playground exemplifies the concept of the 'Kiwi Big Backyard'. With increasingly higher density living it is great to see such spaces being designed to act as community focal points. In modern urban villages often a mix of people are brought together forming brand new communities. Kopupaka is a wonderful community space that offers a range of facilities and provides a space to play, exercise, socialise and meet their new neighbours.
