In the playground industry more than 80% of carbon emission comes from the raw materials, so Kompan have chosen to face the challenges headon, with a goal to develop new sustainable raw materials.
As a result, Kompan can now deliver full solution playgrounds that are Born Green or Made Green.
Born Green - Products are made of nature’s own building material, wood sourced from sustainable forestry.
Made Green - Products are made green by utilising recycled materials such as ocean waste, used textiles, food packaging waste and plastic bags.
DUMPED FISHING ARE BEING RECYCLED INTO PLAYGROUNDS
More than 640,000 tonnes of fishing gear are dumped and discarded in the ocean every year, the same weight as 55,000 doubled-decker busses.
The HDPE panels and decks in Kompan’s Greenline range are made from 75% recycled ocean waste.
MAKING PLAYGROUNDS CLEANER WITH TEXTILE WASTE
Kompan have created a concept called TexMade™, which is about converting traditional steel posts into posts made of post-consumer textiles and post-consumer plastic bags. They use the poorest of the textile waste, meaning, the textile waste that is just about to end up at the incineration or landfill.
This makes it possible to shift from traditional steel posts with high emissions and over to posts made of post-consumer textile waste with a much lower carbon emission.
REAL CO2 REDUCTIONS THAT HAVE BEEN INDEPENDENTLY VERIFIED BY BUREAU VERITAS
KOMPAN don’t just claim to be green. They have validated their claims with a third party to be as open and transparent as possible about their green credentials. They have worked with Bureau Veritas, the organization behind the global ISO certifications, to verify the calculations for recycling and carbon emission.
The circular playground is partially made of ocean waste and recycled plastic from hospitals in the region of Mid-Jutland in Denmark.
