The Tower at Allenby Park in Papatoetoe is a custom designed structure we created in conjunction with the Auckland Council South Parks team to act as an iconic draw card for this newly revamped destination playground.
Standing atop an existing mound, the desired look of the tower was ‘pick-up-sticks’ – we achieved this look by creating a symmetrical facade of criss-crossing angled timber poles around a solid 2.7m high octagonal platform. To ensure that this tower is for the big kids can only be accessed by a ladder and chain net climber while the fire pole and the very quick 10m long tube slide are the exit options.
As with all of our towers we feel that the height is a key feature to be enjoyed in groups, certainly the platform which sits 5.5m above the rest of the play area provides for an excellent vantage point to see and be seen – and is a great socialising spot for older children allowing them the hangout without compromising the flow of other users climbing up to and sliding out of the tower. This playground also features a brand new sand and water play area which includes our robust Totara sand play tables and Richter Spielgerate Water pump.
The older modular structure has also been refurbished as part of the upgrade and the playground is also home to one of the first Kompan Galaxy structures and Supernovas that we installed in New Zealand – still going strong 12 years later. If you are after a tower as a key feature for your next playground development let our designers create something unique for you.
