With the Island Bay School’s old school playground approaching end of its useful life, the school wanted to create two separate robust playgrounds with different age appropriate play experiences for their junior and senior students. The typography of the sites created challenges for carrying out the physical installations but we were able to meet the School’s expectations by creating two fun and challenging play spaces that would withstand the harsh environmental conditions of Wellingtons south coast.
For the junior play area we designed the “Island Bay” – a junior/middle school combination playground - especially for the school’s site. This unit features two circuits of 3m long climbing, upper-body and balance challenges, as well as two connecting towers with an open double slide and an eye-catching 2.4m high spiral tube slide. There is also one of our Forest Basket swings for extra dynamic fun!
For the senior play area , Island bay School was looking for a little more challenge for their growing, active older kids. Our Petone plan was perfect for the available area, this design has two circuits made up of 4m long balance, climbing and upper body events that will give even the most capable older pupil a fun work-out while allowing for the flow of play that school-age kids love. We were able to make on site modifications to this design to allow for the natural slope of the site.
It is always a privilege to create separate junior and senior playgrounds for schools. These separate playgrounds provide a continuum of physical challenges that can help develop kids' confidence as they progress, guaranteeing long-lasting play value!
