Sprawling over a 1 hectare site, the upgrade of the Maidstone Park playground is the result of a two year collaboration between Playground People, Upper Hutt City Council and Rich Landscapes. Our goal was to set a new benchmark for destination playgrounds in New Zealand in terms of accessibility, play value and scope.
The fantasy theme has universal imaginative appeal, the creative repurposing of the existing mound is the perfect platform for iconic Kompan Castle. From this stunning centrepiece the other play areas can be surveyed: The Village, the Quarry, Siege Machines, Bard’s Compass and Training Ground – there is truly something for everyone in this play space. By using proven products coupled with wet-pour matting, we were able to guarantee a new level of accessibility to ensure that Maidstone Park invites everyone to come and play.
The new upgrade includes one of the best skate parks you will find in NZ and we worked with Landscape Architect Richard Smith to integrate an innovative new all-wheel access to the park including a wheel chair friendly pump track around the original flying foxes!
