Muriwai Beach is one of Auckland’s special places and the playground upgrade here required a unique design to reflect the rugged natural beauty of the area. While only a stones throw from the wild beach, the play area is nestled in a sheltered grove ringed by Pohutukawa trees. Auckland Council and Landscape Architects Boffa Miskell gave us the opportunity to create a new rope-play system - something big enough for lots of children to play on at once but made from materials that would not detract from the natural setting. Our solution is the completely new PlatinumPlay Palisade - a modern climbing fort with a nod to the old school chunky timber post structures of yesteryear. It features, multiple play nets for climbing and socialising, a 2m high wobble bridge which links the main structure to a sleek stainless-steel tube slide as well as other climbing and balance features. The Muriwai Beach play area is rounded out with a Basket Swing, accessible Kompan Robinia Carousel, the junior Coastal Lookout play structure as well as the existing swings and trampolines.
