Banks Avenue School in Christchurch was badly damaged in the 2011 earthquakes and needed to be relocated to its new location, becoming Pareawa Banks Avenue School. As the big moving day drew nearer the school contacted us, looking for play options that would suit all ages and fit with the modern design of the new location. We meet with schoolteachers and the principal, highlighting the importance of play value and required space that they would need in order to provide the necessary play experiences for their whole school roll. The school realised that the space that had been allowed for their outdoor play areas would not be sufficient but fortunately were able to advocate for a change to the plans and increased in the size of their playgrounds.
We were able to provide Pareawa Banks Avenue School with the ultimate design that would comfortably cater to the needs of the whole school. The senior play space features a large senior PlatinumPlay playground (a customised version of our Colwill design) packed with a wide range of challenges and thrills for this age group, a 3m Ace Basket Swing and a 6m high Corocord Spacenet. The separate junior playground structure (a customised version of our Hillsborough design) is made up of fun, age-appropriate challenges connected by elevated decks that provide for collaborative imagination play that this age group loves. The school has recently added a basket swing and interactive sensory play panels to the junior play area, providing a full range of play activities for the younger pupils.
As you can see from our video, both play areas are a natural fit for the active kids of Pareawa Banks Avenue School!
